Coverage

Embrace pet insurance covers pretty much everything except pre-existing conditions. The reason most people buy pet insurance is to protect against the unexpected. Choosing the right plan for your pet and budget is hard enough without having to sort through multiple coverage levels, deciding if you need extra coverage. Those decisions become irrelevant because with Embrace, it’s all included in their accident and illness policy. A more detailed look at what the coverage provides would include, but not be limited to:

Dental Illness– New dental accidents and illness that affect the teeth and /or gums such as:

  • Broken, Chipped, and Fractured TeethDog with Glasses
  • Extractions
  • Gingivitis
  • Root Canals and Crowns
  • Stomatitis
  • Periodontal Disease

Dental accidents are covered up to the policy limit and dental illnesses are covered up to $1000 per policy year.

Hereditary and Genetic Conditions– A hereditary or genetic condition is an inherited disease caused by a defect in certain genes transmitted to a puppy or kitten from their parents. Embrace covers diagnostic testing, surgery, rehabilitation, and more for every hereditary or genetic condition. Common genetic disorders in dogs and cats include:

  • Hip Dysplasia
  • Elbow Dysplasia
  • Patellar Luxation
  • Intervertebral Disc Disease
  • Cancer
  • Allergies
  • Congenital Conditions

Cancer Treatment Coverage– Embrace pet insurance policies provide cancer treatment at no additional cost. That includes surgery, treatment, and follow-up visits.

Chronic Conditions– Long term illnesses or injuries like arthritis or diabetes are covered.

Preventable Conditions– Lyme disease, parasites, parvo, and other illness that may have been prevented are still covered.

Orthopedic Conditions– Ligament tears, broken bones, osteosarcoma, and more are covered after a six-month waiting period.

Complementary Treatments and Rehabilitation– Complementary treatments are non-invasive treatments that help manage conditions through movement, water laser and more. Embrace covers complementary treatments that are carried out by or performed under the direct supervision of a licensed veterinarian and include:

  • AcupunctureKitten
  • Chiropractic
  • Hydrotherapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Therapeutic Laser Treatment

Emergency Care– Pets are covered at any emergency vet clinic, including after-hours.

Hospitalization and Surgery– Embrace includes scheduled or emergency surgery coverage. A required hospital stay is also included.

Specialist Care– Veterinarians at emergency and specialty hospitals are specialized, so it costs more to be seen and treated by them. Embrace includes consultation/exam fee coverage in every policy at no additional cost.

Diagnostic Testing– All diagnostic testing for any covered illness or condition, including biopsies, X-rays, MRI, etc. are covered.

Prescription Drugs– If the condition is covered, so are the prescription meds needed to treat or manage the condition.

Pre-Existing Conditions– No pet insurance policy covers pre-existing conditions. Embrace handles them differently. Embrace only reviews 12 months of a pet’s medical history to establish pre-existing conditions. Many pet insurance companies review 24 months or a pet’s entire life. Some conditions are curable. If a pet is symptom and treatment free for a year, that condition is eligible for coverage in the future.

Waiting Periods– All Embrace insurance policies have a 14- day waiting period for illness. Waiting periods for accidents are 48 hours. All dogs have a 6-month waiting period for orthopedic conditions. However, the waiting period for orthopedic conditions may be reduced to 14 days by following the Embrace Orthopedic Exam and waiver process.

Added Benefits

Preventative Care with Wellness Rewards– Wellness rewards isn’t insurance, it’s an optional flexible plan to help budget for preventative and routine care. Insurance helps cover accidents and illness after they happen, Wellness Rewards was designed to reimburse the pet owner for preventative treatments and care, like grooming and nail trims, training, spay/neuter surgery, dental cleanings, and more.

Healthy Pet Deductible– With the healthy pet deductible, your pet’s annual deductible automatically goes down by $50 each year that you don’t receive an insurance claim reimbursement.

The healthy pet deductible is included with every policy at no extra cost.

Discounts and Savings– There are several discounts available such as:

  • 10% multiple pet discount available for policies with two or more pets.
  • 5% military discount is offered to active and former members of the U.S. Air Force, Army, Marines, Navy, or Coast Guard. Proof of status is required.
  • 10% employee discount is available if your company or clinic offers Embrace Pet Insurance as a voluntary employee benefit.

Price

In a March 2022 U.S. News article you will find a nice breakdown of current pet insurance costs for several carriers. Embrace Pet Insurance was one of the companies listed. The monthly premiums listed are as follows:

  • Sample of monthly cost for Dogs————$24.16
  • Sample of monthly cost for cats————–$11.65

Please keep in mind that the cost of insuring a pet depends on several factors, including the animal’s species, breed, age, and gender. Premiums also vary based on the amount of coverage and deductible chose. In general, dogs cost more to insure than cats. For this article, monthly costs chosen are based upon a one-year-old female mixed breed dog and an under one-year-old male domestic shorthair cat, in excellent health residing in Texas, for a $500 annual deductible, $5000 annual benefit limit and 90% reimbursement rate.

Conclusion

Embrace Pet Insurance provides a great contract at a reasonable price.
